Snowbird!

About 8 miles up the canyon from our home are the ski resorts Snowbird and Alta. Snowbird has a lot of fun things going on in the summer as well. They have a zip line, an Alpine slide, a bounce house, hikes, and the tram ride. We went up on Thursday night and when we pulled into the parking lot there was a mommy and daddy moose drinking from the pond right in front of us. Literally, they were about 15 feet away. Shawn was able to get some great photos. I had to watch Cruz very closely because he wanted to go "pet" the moose. I don't think that would have been a pretty picture. After we watched the moose for a while we walked around to see what to do at Snowbird. It started to rain so they shut down all the kid activities. We could have taken the Tram up the mountain but we decided to come back another time when the weather was nicer.

We went back to Snowbird yesterday afternoon. We took the tram up with our jog stroller and backpack and walked down. The tram ride took us 12 minutes to get up and it took us right about 2 hours to get down. There is still snow up there, more than I had expected and we were having to partially ski down slopes in our running shoes. It was a pretty funny sight! Shawn would take Cruz down and they both were sliding down with Cruz between Daddy's legs. I had the jog stroller and was sliding behind that. It doesn't sound tricky, but let me tell you, it was a little sketchy at times. It was a really fun hike overall though, and beautiful scenery.

Cruz loving wearing daddy's hat!

A day that was not too great, to say the least...

Last Friday started great. I met my friend Jen for an early morning jog and got my exercise done early in the day. Cruz and I got ready for the day and we had our list of errands we were going to do. The first stop was Jerry Seiner. I had been there the day before but they replaced the windshield wrong, so they had to redo it. I was a little ticked about that because it was time out of our day AGAIN to go back down to the dealership and get something done that should have been done correct in the first place. Cruz and I made the best of it though, and planned some errands that were by the dealership for afterwards and then we were going to go to Cruz's swim lesson. Cruz did pretty well at the dealership. After the dealership I had 3 places I was debating going before we went to swim lessons. Walmart, Target, or Costco...I knew I couldn't make all 3 in our time frame so I decided to go to Walmart first. We walked in and Cruz started to get fussy. He got into my purse and took the truck keys out. I knew in my head I should NOT let him play with these keys, but I didn't want to deal with a fussy 2 year old and I only had to grab a few items. I was in the baking goods aisle and I had been keeping my eyes on the keys and the next second I looked down they were gone. I immediately asked Cruz, "where did you put the keys?" Two very bad mommy moves at this point, letting your child have the keys, and not forcing him to stay strapped into the cart because he could have put them anywhere. I tried NOT to panic but it was impossible, they could have been anywhere. Cruz started to have a melt down and started throwing the grapes and raspberries all over the aisles. I was frantically looking on all the shelves...nothing! We looked for about 20 minutes and I could not find them. Our swim lesson started in 10 minutes. I called my mom in a panic but realized even if she could drop everything and come and get me we still wouldn't make swim lessons....which totally bugged me. Anyway, long story short. We spent over 2.5 hours at Walmart. My mom couldn't come and get us immediately and Shawn was pretty far away with work. Cruz and I did take a break and eat lunch there and then resumed retracing our steps. I had called the swim lesson place and explained our situation. They were very kind and let us schedule a make up for the following Monday without losing our money. I left a note at Customer Service with my name, number, and description of the keys with really no hope of anyone finding them, let alone turning them in! Luckily we do have a spare set of keys for the truck at home and my mom was able to go pick them up and bring that set down to us. I left Walmart a very frustrated, overwhelmed, and tired mommy.

Part 2 of the story-Crazy enough though, I got a call from Walmart on Saturday and someone had turned in keys that matched the description I had left. I ran down there in the afternoon and after talking to about 5 different people telling them my story and how I had gotten a phone call saying the keys were found, we found them on a back counter of Customer Service. All that stress and everything ended up working out.

LESSON LEARNED-NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, LET CRUZ HAVE THE KEYS NO MATTER HOW FUSSY HE IS!!!

The excitement of a slide!

I took the truck to pick up a slide for my mom. She is replacing the older metal slide that is on the swing set up in Idaho. We brought the slide to our house last night and Cruz was so excited to show daddy. I went inside to put a few things away and when I came back out, Shawn had set the slide up from off the truck! Cruz and Shawn took turns going down the slide! Cruz was loving it!!

Other random things.....Cruz has 2 orange shirts that both of 3 surfboards on them. They aren't exactly the same shirt but they look pretty close to being the same. He loves wearing one of these shirts. When he picks his shirt to wear he usually picks one of the "blue" shirts with the surfboards on it. So, I do swear I put him in clean clothes it just looks like the same shirt!

Another thing.....every color is blue! I ask him the color of lots of things and he says "blue"! I think he knows his colors though because when I ask him to hand me the purple mail he picks the right one....I just think our little man is pretty stubborn!

Cruz is starting to have to do everything himself.....sometimes it drives me crazy but he is learning I guess and I am trying to learn patience!

Cruz crawls out of his crib VERY easily and likes to make bed time super hard. This is a huge change for us because he used to go down with no problem.....we are in the process of working on this one!

Another phase, he likes to take his clothes and diaper off when he gets real mad or is in time out. This just started happening 2 days ago, so hopefully this little phase will pass quickly.

Cruz does stuff all the time that makes me laugh and he is such a curious little man......I get my exercise just trying to keep up!!

Zoo day!

Cruz and I went to the zoo yesterday afternoon with Grandma R, Aunt Ali, Walt, and a friend of Walt's. It was the first day in about 2 weeks they weren't calling for rain, so we decided to go! It was the perfect day to go. Not too hot, not too cold, not too sunny, and no rain!! The boys had a blast. Grandma R even bought the boys an ice cream cone and boy, Cruz had a great time eating it. Cruz was very careful with his licks, it was funny to watch him!!

More from Mt. Aire

The hummingbirds are amazing at Marc and Cat's house. Cruz had a great time looking at them and trying to hold the feeder. He has a book that talks about a hummingbird called, "Little Green", so thats what we were calling all of the hummingbirds.

Cruz checking everything out around the house with his very own set of binoculars! He liked to get really close to Yeti and look at him with his binoculars.

A photo from the hike! Cruz hiked for a half hour UP hill all by himself!

The mountains with the clouds rolling through!

Blog Laziness!

Cruz taking a load off and relaxing after a hard day of playing!!!

I have been very lazy about taking pictures and blogging lately. We have been pretty busy at the Frye Household, so that makes it a little tougher to post. For the past week and a half I have been going to an all day math class where I studied algebra and measurement. This was the last class I needed to complete to get my math endorsement for teaching through Southern Utah University. I had started the class but then I had Cruz in the middle of the session, so I had to continue it at a later time....and two years later....IT IS DONE!!! I am so happy to have completed the math endorsement. I really learned a lot and I think it could help my teaching.

Cruz went to Aunt Ali's on both Mondays since my mom works on Mondays and then the rest of the time my mom watched Cruz for me. Cruz had a great time with Noma! That is what he calls her. It is pretty dang cute. I am so glad my mom was able to watch him because I know she watches him with lots of tender loving care!

Cruz has started his swim lessons for the summer. The program we have him in is a one on one program. He cries and it is pretty hard to watch, but they can get kids to save their lives in a pool within 16 lessons. While Cruz was having his lesson today this little girl (2.5) was swimming around like a fish. She had only been taking lessons for about 4 months, it was pretty impressive. They force the kids to get on the their back and go in positions in the pool they don't feel comfortable in. Cruz doesn't like to go on his back but they make him stay that way until he looks them in the eye for 3 seconds. I hope we are doing the right thing, hopefully we will start seeing the benefits soon and he will start enjoying it more!!!

Cruz was trying so hard to blow on Marc's whistle. He finally was able to get a little noise to come out but he about passed out from trying so hard!
On Sunday afternoon we went up to visit Marc, Cat, and Yeti at Mt. Aire. The boys went on a little hike before the rain started. Troy and Sherri drove up too and we had a delicious dinner that Cat made for us.

We have had a very wet summer so far. I guess it is good because we are usually in such a drought but the gloomy, rainy days are getting a bit old. I didn't mind too much when I was in school because it made it easier to sit through class, but I am definitely getting ready for some warm, sunny, summer days. Literally for about 2 weeks now it has rained every day, that is crazy for Utah!!

Crazy hair and update on Garden

Cruz woke up with the craziest hair today. I took this picture after it tamed down some! I guess it was a rough night, but we didn't hear any complaints from him!

Our garden is doing so well. This has been a fun little project for me. I am not so sure Shawn would agree since he spent his whole last Saturday trying to set up the sprinkling system for it, but I sure do appreciate all of his hard work. I keep telling him, next year will be a breeze! One of our boxes is totally taking off. The other boxes are doing well to, there are just some bare spots that I am not so sure what happened!! Hopefully we will get some veggies soon!

Last Day at Little Gym

Yesterday was our last day for this semester at Little Gym. Cruz has LOVED going to his gymnastics class and it has been a good way for him to get out some of his energy. We are going to take a break for summer semester and do swim classes and maybe we will go back to Little Gym in the fall.

Warm up, running around the red mat!

Parachute time!

Cruz loved to hang on the bars, walk on the beam, roll on the mats, and just go wild!

Ball time near the end of the class was one of Cruz's favorites. Every time, without a doubt, Cruz would run over to the basketball net with his ball. This is him being sad that ball time was over!

Miss Lila passed out awards at the end of class on Tuesday. Cruz was very proud to go and pick up his award and ribbon that says, "I'm a Star at Little Gym". Good job my little star!
