Tonight I had girls night out. About a week ago we decided to do a gift exchange at our GNO dinner, but the one stipulation was that the gift had to be homemade. My heart sank when I heard those words....crafts...me....yikes!! After thinking about it a couple of days I decided I wanted to make an apron. I bought a sewing machine about 10 years ago when I was back in my single days and thinking I was going to learn to become domestic, that phase lasted about 2 weeks, long enough for me to purchase a sewing machine and figure out how to thread the bobbin. I pulled the sewing machine out on Saturday to see if I had all the parts and to see if I could make it work. I dusted off the cobwebs and got it going. The next step was finding the most simple apron pattern around.... I found that thanks to a great blog at projectsforyournest.blogspot.com. My mom and I had a fun time going out and picking material. I decided to do Christmas material because I really wasn't sure how great this apron was going to turn out, and that way my friend would only have to wear it 1 month instead of 12!! :) Thanks to lots of help from my mother in law on Saturday ( I wouldn't have been able to do it without her) I was able to sew the apron. Yes, there are lots of mistakes, but I was pretty impressed with myself...I actually sewed an apron. The mistakes were really bugging me so I decided to try one more apron. If I finished it in time for GNO I would give Victoria the better one, if I didn't get time to finish then Victoria would get the original apron. Doing the same project a second time is so much better. Not to say I didn't make mistakes, but I improved. Maybe I will actually become a sewer!!! :)
**By the way, there is the cutest fabric at a store called Material Girls.........not just Christmas fabric, fun vintage patterns, Amy Butler, modern fabrics, etc.
Second apron that I finished in time to give to Victoria (top apron)
****PSS, Charlene thank you so much for the wonderful gift, I am excited to taste it (Yummy hot chocolate)!
