We had a fun New Years Eve day at our household, at least I had fun, the kids might disagree. Shawn went skiing in the morning and I got to go in the afternoon. We have gotten a lot of good snow lately. It has turned pretty chilly, but it was still fun to get up the mountain. My mom actually went with me and the most amazing thing about that is she had foot surgery about 2.5 months ago and she was able to ski. It was her first time up the mountain this winter, so it was fun to get out. We skied at Snowbird but when we were done skiing we went over to Goldminers Daughter at Alta. My mom and I scouted a great table in front of the big windows that overlook the mountain. We got hot chocolate and called Shawn and he brought the kids up and met us. We had pizza and nachos when the gang got there and waited for the torch parade. Alegra was starting to get fussy so as the skiers were about to come down the hill with their torches my mom and I took Alegra to the car and watched it from the road and then headed home. It was really cool with the fireworks going off and skiers skiing down the hill in a line holding torches. One year the kids will probably want to do that but I am glad it was not this year. It was -3 out and most likely a lot colder at the top of the mountain. I was shocked by how many people actually braved the cold and were in the torch parade (it is all volunteer). Shawn and Cruz left a little after us but they made a pit stop at Snowbird. Next to the Chickadee run that Cruz skies at Snowbird there is a hot tub and pool. Every time he skies by it he looks in and says he wants to go. Shawn took him last night. Shawn said they had so much fun. Cruz's hair got icicles in it and he thought he was going to have to cut all of his hair off. He was relieved when they went inside to change that it started melting on its own. When the boys got home we got the kids down and we went to bed shortly after. I don't think the whole time I have known Shawn that we have ever stayed up until midnight on New Years Eve. We were awoken at midnight by the firework display that went off from a neighboring restaurant La Caille. Luckily, the kids didn't wake up from them though!
We have had a wonderful year and continue to feel very blessed every day!
A sidenote: A new thing Cruz started saying to me today when he doesn't get his way, "Mom, your breaking my heart!" And Alegra doesn't stop talking. It is her babble and I don't really know what she is saying but boy, does she like to jabber.
