The Wedge or "the Little Grand Canyon" by the San Rafael River

We went camping this weekend to "the wedge" or also known as "the little grand canyon" about 45 minutes south of Price.  It was fall break for Cruz so we were able to take off on Friday morning.  We had a great trip. We got there on Friday afternoon about lunch time and set up camp.  We decided to set up both tents so we would have adequate sleeping space.  We found a spot pretty close to the main lookout point and a kind of close to the bathroom (outhouse).  It was a really pretty camping spot.  A bit rocky but not too bad.  As we were getting things unloaded from the truck Cruz was talking about the word "idiot" not a word I love but he was kind of just talking and Shawn and I were working.  He was starting to spell it saying "ede"...and then again "ede" and then he would get kind of stuck.  Alegra was a few feet off and in kind of a snotty voice says, "its an "I".  Shawn and I just looked at each other and tried to not laugh.  That little smarty pants.  Cruz didn't seems to bugged and then was able to spell the word with the help from his little sister

Hanging out in the big tent.  We got things set up and the Shawn took Alegra on the tag along and Cruz on his new mountain bike (the bike we purchased for him 2 nights before we left).  He has a bike but it is more of a BMX style bike, this one is a true mountain bike with gears and everything. It should fit him for a while.  They biked around for a bit while Lexi and I continued to organize camp.  Then they came back and Shawn and Cruz decided to go out on the tag along on an actual mountain bike trail that ran along the rim of the canyon.

Both Friday and Saturday it would get very warm during the middle part of the day, as you can tell from Lexi's attire!
By about 5:00 it would start to drastically cool down as the sun went down!
 Camp.....reading!
Turf outside the big tent.  That was a super smart idea.  You can see the smaller tent in the background

Dinner time.  The first night we made foil packets with hamburger patties, potatoes, onions, and carrots.  I needed more butter and seasonings in them and I think I would do more snibbles of meat instead of a patty.  We overcooked them and the meat was pretty tough.  Dad had bought sugar cookies for dessert that night!

 Sunrise!!

There were lots of areas to explore around our campsite and the kids could walk around and bike around pretty comfortably which made it nice
Can't believe how big Cruz is getting!

All the kids were into having their picture taken this weekend. It was kind of fun and funny.  We got a lot of good pics this weekend!

This one was from the morning time and Cruz does NOT like his messy hair. I think it is so cute~
Pooh is kind of a staple at our house right now!
On Saturday we all took a ride mid morning.  I pulled Lexi in the Chariot, Shawn had Alegra behind him on the tag along and Cruz rode.  It was so fun to go out and be able to peddle together.   We came home and had lunch and then drove to Buckboard Wash, an area about 15 minutes from us were there was some Indian drawings (a couple of different sites that we drove to and hiked to), a dinosaur foot print, and some caves.

 Dinosaur foot print!
 Jumping for joy!
 My fav's!!!
Lexi got pretty good on her blue bike this weekend, she was riding it everywhere!

 LOVE THIS FAMILY OF OURS!!!

Friday night of sleeping was pretty rough. The girls and I were in the big tent.  Alegra and I were in the blow up mattress.  Lexi was on the pads right next to us.  Lexi had a hard time calming down. Once she did she slept good till about midnight.  Then she got cold so I put her up on the mattress with us.  She is like a little burr though and kept pushing me toward Alegra.  We ended up being totally smashed in one corner.  At about 5 a.m. I tried moving Lexi but that was a mistake.  She woke up then Alegra woke up and neither of them would/could go back to sleep.  I resorted to pulling out the iPad to let them watch something.  When you are camping you can literally hear the person whispering the next campsite over so I knew we were waking the entire place up. Luckily that kept the girls quiet for a bit.  On Saturday night we switched the sleeping arrangement up.  Cruz moved to the big tent with Alegra and I and dad took Lexi in the small tent. Again Lexi had a bit of a hard time calming down but luckily she slept the entire night.  Cruz slept like a rock both nights. Alegra kind of got up both nights but it is kinda what she does at home too.  She is not as good of a sleeper as Cruz is.  Sunday morning we got up and had breakfast and sat by the fire to warm up.  We then started to break down camp. It took us a bit to get things organized and loaded but we weren't in too big of a rush.

We had a great weekend. I admit, I am not much of a camper but I know it creates great memories and it is free!  I love spending the weekend with my family!!!
