The girls and I headed to San Clemente California on Sunday July23rd. The original plan is we were going out to California to take care of Isla and be around for Mia and Sasha, but Ryan ended up staying home. He drove down to San Clemente from LA with Isla and Ezra on Sunday night as well. The kids were able to run catch the sunset at the beach and hang out Sunday night. On Monday Ryan surfed and I took Alegra to MedHero, an instacare facility in San Clemente because her foot was bothering her from soccer. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't broken and didn't want to do more damage, but she just had a bruised bone. We went to the Riviera beach in the afternoon. Alegra and Isla took the E bikes and the rest of us jumped in the golf cart with a huge blow up mattress for the kids to play on. It was sunny and warm at the beach.
On the way home from the beach, Isla and Alegra took off before we got everything loaded onto the golf cart. The plan was to meet up at their neighborhood pool. I was driving along in the golf cart and I got a call from a 714 area code number, which I know is Huntington Beach. I decided to answer and their was a lady on the phone that says, "is your daughter Alegra Frye?" Immediately I believe I said, "was she hit?" The lady said no, but she has fallen. Right then Ryan was pulling up to the scene. Alegra was on the sidewalk all bloody. Isla was pacing and crying. There was the lady that called me and then a California road person helping us. Another lady pulled up and offered to take Alegra and I to the MedHero (the place we had been that morning). I was kinda frozen and Alegra was definitely in shock. She wasn't even crying she was just sitting there stone faced. This kind stranger took Alegra and I to the Instacare. The lady suggested I call to let them know we were coming in and that was helpful because they had a room for us and could get Alegra some blankets. We were both in wet swimsuits. Ryan drove my car and brought me clothes about 15 minutes after being in the InstaCare. They took an X-ray of alegras face and arm. They said it all looked ok. Alegra did have a big gash in the side of her nose and the physician assistant stitched it up. I was really torn about that but I really couldn't think of any contacts to help find a plastic surgeon at that moment. We picked up some advil and tylenol and some prescription face cream on the way home and got back to Ryan's house at about 5:30 p.m. He had ordered pizza and soup for Alegra. Ryan's good friend Christ Spilsbury came over a little later that night to help Ryan give Alegra a blessing of healing. That was really nice.
On Tuesday morning I saw some ripping near the stitches that Alegra had gotten and I kinda freaked out. I called MedHero and they suggested I get her into a plastic surgeon. Ryan called a few friends and we found a guy I was friends with in the Huntington Beach singles ward and I had totally forgotten he was a plastic surgeon in Southern California. He called me personally and told me to bring Alegra into his office in Newport Beach. I drove her straight there. He looked at the stitches and said we might not have needed to do them but that we can visit someone later to get them fixed if they don't look good. He is a bit worried about a broken nose and put me in contact with a plastic surgeon in Utah. He offered to take out her stitches over the weekend (5 days later) and I was super excited to have someone that knows and cares about us working on Alegra. He also suggested I take Alegra to Newport Orthopedics if I was still worried about her arm/shoulder. When we left his office I called the Orthopedics place to see if they did walk-ins. They didn't but they could see us Wednesday (the next day at 8 a.m.). I took the appointment. When we got home Tuesday it was still foggy. We decided to just go to the pool and hang out. Alegra couldn't get her face wet with the stitches and with all the facial abrasions, she needed to keep her face out to the sun. She was so sad about unmet expectations about this trip that she had been sooooo looking forward to.
Tuesday night Ryan needed to go up to LA so I took the kids to the outlet center that is in San Clemente and we ate dinner at Ruby's Diner in the mall area. We came home and chilled and watched t.v. that night.
Thursday in LA
All of Lexi's dreams came true....she was able to skinny dip
Lexi and Ezra stayed at Ryan and Naomi's and swam at their pool and I took Isla and Alegra to 3rd Street Promenade to shop a bit.
Then came home to pool time and relaxing
Friday was our Disney Day - its about an hour drive to LA to Disneyland. We met our guide Jodi and had an amazing day at Disney!
Tired waiting for our dinner reservations at the place that has the famous Montecristo sandwich. After dinner Ryan wanted to get home to help Isla get ready to leave for her camp the next morning. We were pretty tired and we no longer had the guide. We rode all the main rides with the guide from the hours of 10-6, which is amazing. So we quickly walked through Downtown Disney and then headed back to LA
Saturday - Lexi went home with Rich's family from Disney. Alegra and I got up early to go to Newport and have Dr. Steven Daines (my friend) took out her stitches at his office. Then Alegra and I headed back up to LA. We picked up Shawn from the airport, grabbed a bite to eat near the airport at a Mexican place and then headed back to the airport to get Cruz. While we were driving I was checking where Cruz was on Live360 and it looked like we were right next to each other and I literally look over and a bus was merging with us and it was his bus. That was so fun. We followed the bus till it parked and I was able to run out and give my Cruzy a hug! I missed him so much but he had the best time!!! His trip leader said he was so fun to have on the trip and such a great worker. I LOVED hearing that!Cruz brought us all a gift. Shawn a pepper grinder, me and the girls key chains. Bracelets for his friends.
We hung out at Ryan and Naomi's for a few hours and then headed to Rich and Katie's to pick up Lexi and hang out and eat dinner. It was such a fun evening. We were going to stay and go to Disneyland on Monday with Cruz but he was ok not going. It would have been hard for the girls and I to go to Disney without a guide. We would probably literally only ride a few rides because the wait times were so long when we were there on Friday. Shawn is not a fan of Disney. I think with Alegra's accident and upcoming doctor appointments and Cruz wanting to get home after 3 weeks gone, we decided to drive home on Sunday. It took about 12 hours to get home (we did stop for lunch in Las Vegas and dinner in Provo). It seemed like a long drive but we did it! Not the trip we thought it would be, but it was still nice and I still feel very blessed Alegra wasn't injured worse!
