Alegra gave a nice talk in Sacrament on Sunday October 22nd!
I enjoyed listening to general conference a couple weeks ago. The talk I wanted to refer today was the talk by Sister Emily Belle Freeman called, “Walking in Covenant Relationship with Christ.” I related to the story she shared at the beginning of her talk. She talked about how she heard about the Jesus Trail from Nazareth to Capernum and she wanted to walk this trail. A few weeks before she was set to leave for Israel, she broke her foot. She decided she was still going to go on her trip and do her best to be on that trail. Sister Freeman said.
(quote) “I navigated the steep path and the boulders for a time on my own. Then, moved by the sincerity of my commitment, Mya (my guide) pulled out a thin rope, tied it to the handlebars of my scooter, and began to pull. She pulled me up the hills, through lemon orchards, and along the banks of the Sea of Galilee. At the journey’s end, I expressed gratitude for my sweet guide, who had helped me accomplish something I could have never accomplished on my own.” (end quote)
I play soccer. This past spring, we had tryouts. The yearly tryouts are stressful and all the clubs hold the tryouts on the same days so it makes it really difficult. I made a team but several of my teammates made other teams. It was a challenge going to practice feeling like I was left behind. I had been very comfortable with my team before. I was sad and didn’t know if I wanted to continue on this new team. I prayed. I decided to keep playing. This team has turned out to be really good. I feel like Heavenly Father really helped me, just like Mya helped Sister Freeman on the trail.
Sister Freeman also talked about Jacob’s dream, she referred to a 5 finger promise the Lord gave Jacob:
· I am with you.
· I will keep you safe.
· I will bring you home again.
· I will not leave you.
· I will keep my promise to you.7
I am grateful that because I was baptized I have these promises available to me. I am grateful that I know I have a loving Heavenly Father. I am grateful for Jesus Christ and the atonement. I am grateful I can pray. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
