Buenos Dias me llama es Lexi Frye I hope you all enjoyed the fiesta last night. and this is my first talk as a Young Woman. I have been in the Young Woman’s program for a little under a year. I have loved going to the Temple, participating in class, going to activities, and getting to know all of the girls.
I love this time of year. There is a special feeling. I love all the fun things we get to do.
One fun thing my family does, is we cut down our own Christmas tree. In the past, we have cut our tree down in Idaho, but last year, we were in Utah. My mom was late in getting a permit, so we ended up with a permit for the dessert area. I was not happy when we drove out there to see all the pinon pines, which if you don’t know is a bare dessert tree. We did end up finding a little pinon pine that we made work even though it seemed like it only had 3 branches. It wasn’t our prettiest tree, but we have good memories from the adventure.
A tree is one of the symbols of Christmas. An evergreen tree is green all year around. A green thriving tree in the dead of winter reminds people of hope and new life. Because of Jesus we can have everlasting life. We can choose to see the evergreen tree as his symbol of Jesus and His gift to us.
Thankfully, this year we found a healthier looking tree. After we get it in our home we decorate it and put a star on top. The star is another symbol of Christmas. It’s hard to go anywhere during Christmas without seeing stars everywhere. The star is one of the most recognizable symbols of the holiday. It represents the star that appeared in the sky when Jesus was born. Five years before Jesus was born, Samuel the Lamanite, prophesied of the signs of the Saviors birth, including the appearance of a bright new star. The star lead the wise men to Jesus and reminds us to follow the light of the Savior just as the wise men followed the light of the star to find Him.
There are a lot of other symbols of Christmas that represent Jesus. For example, the wreath showing eternal love, with no beginning and no end. A Candle, can represent the light of Christ in our home. The Candy Cane represents the Shepherds cane, the shepherds cane has a little hook on top to gently grab the sheep and lead them back home. Just like Jesus can help lead us back home.
I am so grateful for this time of year. To think about Jesus and all he has done for us. That also helps me think about how I can serve and help others.
In the name of Jesus Christ Amen
