Our baby girl was born today! I started to have pretty heavy contractions at about 10 p.m. last night. They occurred every 8 minutes. I was trying not to make too much noise so Shawn could sleep. By midnight though, I needed to take a bath or do something to alleviate the pain. With Cruz I labored long and hard and when I went to the hospital I was only 2 cm and they almost didn't admit me, so I didn't want the same thing to happen. I took a bath and took some Tylenol and went back to bed. I kind of dozed for about an hour then, which helped, but continued to have contractions. At 2:00, I went downstairs to walk around. By 3:00 a.m. I was having contractions every 5 minutes, they were extremely painful and I thought we should go in. I went to tell Shawn. He had been awake but trying to just rest, neither of us knew how long it would go on. I called my mom and she came over by 3:30a.m. Luckily my mom got some sleep because she left for her big trip today. We arrived at St. Mark's at 4:00 a.m. I was nervous they were going to say I wasn't dilated, etc. I got checked in fairly quick, had a few bad contractions getting to the room, etc. But when the nurse checked me, she was like, wow you are an 8! I couldn't believe it. I said I wanted the epidural and she wasn't even sure she could get it to me in time for delivery. The anistesologist came in and that process seemed to take a long time but he did give me the epidural. I probably should have tried to go natural because even though the contractions were pretty darn painful, they weren't unbearable. By the time he finished, they checked me and I was a 10. The nurse kind of held me off for 15 minutes so my legs had time to numb before I started pushing. I will say this, the pushing was enjoyable and the after effects of the epidural weren't that bad because I had it hardly in my system, so all in all, I guess I am glad I had it, it was just strange getting that close and not really even considering she would be born so soon. Baby girl came out at 5:50 a.m. after only 2 sets of pushes. She was perfect. She didn't come out screaming and that scared me some. I know it is usually better for them to clear their lungs and cry and she seemed too calm to me. They did have to drain her and squeeze out fluid from he mouth. She is so perfect though and that was such a relief.
Dr. Yamashiro didn't end up delivering her though. I knew he came back in town today, because I had an appointment with him at 9:15 a.m. to get checked. But he was still on the plane at 5:50 coming back from Hawaii. A lady doctor, Dr. Horvath, ended up delivering our baby. Because she was in good position and all things seemed to be going smooth, I wasn't too worried. I thought the doctor did a great job too.
As I said earlier my mom had a tripped planned to Spain and Portugal long before I had told her I was pregnant. She had paid for the trip and Sandy was planning on her going so she was going to be gone on my due date, the 23rd. About a week ago I could tell she was getting really nervous about leaving and not knowing if me and the baby were alright. I started thinking, maybe the baby will come early, even though I had an internal struggle because I knew my doctor was gone and I really wanted him to deliver the baby. It was amazing I had her this morning, truly an answer to prayers, because I actually thought Dr. Yamashiro was going to be here (I thought he got back Sunday night), and my mom got to hold her and see her and know that everything was fine before she boarded the plane this afternoon.
We decided on Alexis Lucille Frye, "Lexi Lu", for her. The kids came to visit me and her this morning and it was fun to see them with her. Alegra really loves her, so does Cruz. It was fun to hear them say her name. We really struggled with choosing a name but I hope she likes it and it will fit her.
