Strep Throat!
Cruz started feeling terrible Saturday evening. By Sunday he was fevering, throwing up, very lethargic, and NOT himself at all. I just wasn't' sure if it was stomach flu or like a cold flu.....then our neighbor came over and said his daughter tested positive for strep. Cruz played with that little girl for about 10 minutes outside on Friday. I started thinking maybe that was it though! He had a terrible night Sunday night and wasn't better at all on Monday. In fact, he had a rash all over his body and he wanted to pull his right ear off it was hurting so bad. At 9 a.m. I called Dr. Pete but unfortunately he is out of the country this week. I then called over to the clinic our friend Kathy Wismer is a pediatrician at. She has seen both kids in emergency situations. She wasn't in until the evening and I knew Cruz couldn't hold out. We got in to see a Dr. Memmet at 11:30 at her clinic. Cruz was in so much pain and kept begging to go to the doctor all morning. When we got there we had to wait forever to see the doctor. Once they took us back the nurse swabbed his throat for strep and it threw Cruz into a frenzy. He was uncontrollable. I finally got him calmed down and after waiting another LONG time the doctor finally came in. Cruz totally flinched when the Dr. put the thing in his ear and it made the doctor mad. He said he would come back when Cruz calmed down. I was trying and trying to get Cruz calm but it wasn't doing much good. Finally the doctor came back in and quickly checked his other ear. Cruz tested positive for Strep and had a nasty ear infection. We started antibiotics immediately. Cross our fingers, so far Alegra, Shawn, nor I have not had symptoms. I hope we can stop this one before it gets passed around the house, especially with baby coming soon. To say the least, it was kind of an awful day yesterday, but I think we are on the mend.
