Lexi's Primary Talk

I forgot to post Lexi's primary talk she gave on May 1st.  She came up with the analogy all by herself and ran with it.  So proud of her!!!

Hi my name is Lexi.  Do you know about the popsicle stick, yarn, and pipe cleaner analogy?

If you don’t know already, let me tell you.  I learned this lesson in class.  It goes like this:  the popsicle stick is firm and rigid.  It always has to get what it wants because it will throw a fit and be stubborn.  It doesn’t respect others opinions.  The yarn will be wishy washy and fly in the wind.  It will be like, “o.k. that’s fine, I don’t care, whatever.” But inside the yarn really does have an opinion and wants to do something but the yarn doesn’t stand up for itself.  The pipe cleaner is what we want to be like.  It will bend and flex and make changes.  But when something is important to the pipe cleaner it will stand its ground.  We can be like the pipe cleaner in our lives.  We are taught to love and be kind to all.  We can be kind to others that don’t share our same beliefs or opinions.  Yet, we can still stay strong to our beliefs.

Dallin H. Oaks said, “we are to live in the world but not be of the world.  We must live in the world because, as Jesus taught in a parable, His kingdom is like heaven, where we are supposed to be a good example.  His followers cannot do that if they associate only with those who share their same beliefs and practices .  But the Savior also taught that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. “
