Camping/Biking Trip - Day #2

We woke up Thursday morning in the RV and it was Cinco De Mayo, our Cruz man's birthday. He was so excited. He knew Grandpa and Grandma brought a present for him and he couldn't wait any longer. He loves presents, I guess what 4 year old doesn't!!!! Grandpa and Grandma got him the Imaginext Space Station. He was very excited. Dad got him a big pirate flag to put out on the swing set. Cruz was in heaven playing with the space shuttle the rest of the day. We made some oatmeal, did dishes, and then headed toward Cortez, Colorado. We arrived in Cortez early afternoon. We ended up camping in a large fair grounds where Shawn's race was going to take place on Saturday. Our friends Doug and Terena were there already holding our spot. There were a few tents on the fairgrounds, but not too many. We had lunch and then luckily Doug and Terena let us borrow their truck to go to Mesa Verde. We could have gone in the RV but it was about 30 miles to the visitor center on a long whindy road (at the fair grounds we were only 5 miles from the entrance to the park, but the visitor center and the ruins were all into the park about 30 miles). We went to the Spruce Tree House Ruins. These were the ruins that were self guided. It was very cool to see these Indian homes built into the side of these huge cliffs. Very impressive. We would love to go back when the kids are older and explore more. We headed back to our campsite for dinner and a little birthday celebration. Cruz got to open more presents and blow out candles on some brownies we made. He got a turtle pillow pet from Alegra, a space imaginext truck from me, a bike bell from dad, an ugly doll from Aunt Aii, and some fun games from Jeff and Monica. Cruz got a lot of fun games and toys for his birthday, everyone was so generous, thank you!!!! I can't believe Cruz is 4. The time goes so fast. He is so cute and so into playing with his toys right now!
