FRUITA COLORADO TRIP

We had a fun and a not so fun trip for camping down in Fruita, Colorado.
DAY 1- We left the morning of Thursday, March 28th (Shawn's birthday), the kids had made dad cards and I bought donuts. Shawn picked up the rental camper the night before and we stayed up pretty late packing it up. We were on the road by 7 a.m., we stopped in Spanish Fork for a quick bite of breakfast at McDonalds. The kids were playing before we started eating and Alegra seemed to be acting weird, luckily I had asked for some bags when I bought the food.  She started coughing and I had time to grab a bag and then she started pucking.  Luckily she got most of it in the bag.  Wow, what a way to start a trip!  We ate quick and had her sip on Sprite.  We got back in the truck, nervous that I was going to have a sick 3 year old.  Luckily, she ate crackers and soda the rest of the drive and kept things down and started getting her color back.  We actually made really good time to Fruita, about 5 hours.  We pulled to our camping site about 1:00 p.m.  Unfortunately we weren't able to get a nicer camping spot, we were kind of in a dirt field.  There was a big group gathering for the weekend. We knew some of the families but some of the families we didn't know. We kind of tagged along with Doug and Terena, who have been doing a trip with these families for a long time. Doug and Terena were already there and another family.  Rick and Kathy were still out west and drove from Arizona to camp with us before they headed back home.  We got the camper situated and got things organized.  I had made some cookie bars for Shawn's birthday cake and we got to sing to him around the camp fire.

Friends we know from SLC also came that evening Pablo and Kubi and their 2 girls, Kia and Gwen (similar ages to Cruz and Alegra).  We have never done much with them besides some mountain biking, but the kids got along great.  Cruz and Kia played all day every day we were there.  For 3 year olds Gwen and Alegra played great together too.

DAY 2-FRIDAY
In the camper there was a queen bed at one end where we put the pack-n-play on one side and I slept on the space next to the pack-n-play.  Shawn slept on the couch in the kitchen that folded out to a bed and then in the back of the camper there were 2 sets of bunk beds where Cruz, Alegra, Grandpa, and Grandma slept.  It got cold and Lexi was up several times.  Alegra fell out of her bunk once, luckily she was on the bottom bunk.  The heater never turned on and unfortunately Shawn could not get it working the whole trip. It was never brutal but Lexi would get cold.  I usually ended up taking her out of the crib and cuddling with her throughout the night to keep her warm, so on and off sleeping for me. The kids seemed to sleep great, but I think they were so exhausted from playing hard outside all day long, that they could have slept anywhere.  The ladies did a group ride from about 10 to 12 on Friday and the men did a group ride from about 2-4 that afternoon.  Friday night I had pre-made chili and then we had grilled cheese to go with. Thursday night (the night before) I had pre-made Ham Hock and Bean soup. That made the dishes easier.  I think in the future I would do pre-made meals again, and if we happen to ever rent a trailer again I would bring paper plates, cups, and bowls.  We had a 40 gallon water tank but it seemed to go fast. We were very conservative with washing hands, dishes, etc. and we still ran out our last hour.  We used sanitizing wipes for hand washing pretty much the entire time.  So on Friday, pretty much when the guys were riding, the wind picked up and it looked like it was going to rain, but it didn't.  Unfortunately, the dust was just blowing like crazy.  We hung out in the camper that afternoon, with friends of course :).

The kids were looking for gofer holes, this is Cruz checking to see if there is anything in there, luckily nothings was!!! (Cruz, Chloe, and Kia)

I loved getting the chance to bike with this little lady and my big guy!!! Alegra is pretty daring and loved going up big hills and down bumps on her scoot bike. Cruz and I did a bike ride together with his tag along bike attached to mine. That was a ton of fun too!  I love that they love to do the things Shawn and I love.
Alegra also biked with dad a bunch too!

Dad and Cruz got to bike and they actually did the ride Kessle together, pretty awesome!!

DAY 3-SATURDAY
So this is were we get to the really not so fun part of our trip.  I had not spent time by the fire the night before, so I went to bed pretty early. There were people up by our fire until 11:00 probably.  Sometime between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when Shawn got up to go on an early ride, mine and Shawn's bikes were stolen.  Now my bike was 8 years old and was needing some TLC, but Shawn's bike was only a couple years old, with a new frame put on last year. Shawn had saved and saved to get a REALLY NICE BIKE that he really wanted.  You might ask, were they locked up? Sadly, no.  BUT in our behalf, no one locks up their bikes when they are in a place like that.  The other sad part, we were the only ones whose bikes were stolen.  We were the camper parked closest to the road and we have concluded that a car dropped the 2 people off at the beginning of the road, they walked down, grabbed our bikes, peddled down the road, and then had people pick them up at the end. I get so MAD just writing about it.  The weird thing is, I got a weird feeling and thought I saw flashlights outside around 3:00 a.m. I so wish I would have looked out or gone outside, but I was so fearful to move during the night because it seemed like it always woke Lexi up.  So we spent the morning walking around asking other campers if they were missing bikes or saw anything suspicious.  I borrowed Kubi's bike to take a short ride and that was another mistake for me.  She has different clips than I am used to and I really didn't think it would be a problem, till I came to the first time I needed to clip out to catch myself and I couldn't release my foot.  I went down hard and banged up my elbow and hand and have a big bruise on my leg.  I kept going and feel one more time.  That was it, I was done!  I ended up taking the road home because I just didn't trust myself on her bike. That pretty much kind of ruined the mood for me the rest of the day.  I was glad we went because the kids were having fun but by Saturday afternoon/evening I was tired of being filthy dirty (because of all the dirt), tired of not sleeping great, and frustrated about our bikes.  We did stay thru Sunday morning so we could participate in the Easter Egg Hunt.
Our cute little camper. She was great!

DAY 4- SUNDAY, EASTER SUNDAY
The Easter bunny luckily found our trailer and left the kids their Easter baskets and he even hid eggs around our camp site.  The kids had fun collecting all the eggs.  After the Hunt we got packed up and hit the road.  We made a stop in the town of Fruita and got gas and dumped the stuff (sewage and dirty water) from the trailer.  The kids all slept until we hit Price. In Price we pulled over and opened the trailer and made lunch and had a picnic in the park.  We played for a bit and then hit the road again. We made really good time and the kids were great again on the car ride back.  We arrived home at about 5, and worked on unloading the camper.

Snowbird hats, barbie, and Lego Hero Factory guy, candy, and bubbles is what the Easter Bunny brought!

And waiting for the hunt to begin!

 Go Time!!!

Alegra and Gwen comparing notes on where they found eggs :)

MY EXHAUSTED BABES ON THE WAY HOME!

It was a fun trip and the kids had a blast. I don't think they have ever been that dirty in their lives.  The MAJOR BUMMER or BIKES!!!!!!
