The world literally has turned upside down this past week. For a few months we have been hearing about China having this coronavirus, but I didn't think too much about it. The weekend we went to St. George for Alegra's soccer tournament kinda changed things. Americans aboard cruise ships had contracted the virus. Doctors starting saying it was a matter of time before we got it. I still didn't put too much thought into because I had heard it was like a cold. But, Shawn stayed home that weekend and I had him get a bunch of staples, medicine, and toilet paper. It was on my mind and people kept saying to wash your hands and the hand sanitizer in the stores was all sold out. I kept buying "just in case things" still not thinking too much about this Coronavirus. Last Monday, grammy called me crying. The stock market had plunged and the fear was getting real in the world with this virus. She was supposed to leave for Dubai on Tuesday. My mom had a ton of anxiety over leaving and getting sick there. She didn't want to disappoint her friend Jana who stepped up to go on this trip when her sister Susie backed out (when she first heard about coronavirus). It was an answer to prayers because my mom was so anxiety ridden, but Jana called when I was talking it through with my mom. She said she didn't think they should go. It was a huge wait off of my mom. On Wednesday, the virus became real for us in Utah. Rudy Gobert, a Jazz player, got tested for COVID-19 right before playing an NBA game. It came back positive. The game was immediately cancelled and within minutes the NBA season was postponed. By Thursday morning Donavan Mitchell, another jazz player tested positive and all sports were being cancelled. The beloved college NCAA March madness tournament first said they were playing with no fans and then they completely cancelled. Thursday is when the Utah governor declared Utah in a state of emergency and college campuses were closed. Church, temples, and any large gathering were suspended. By Friday the state government decided all schools would not meet. They basically started asking people to self quarantine. Stay away from others. The cases of Covid 19 over the weekend became community spread in Utah, meaning they didn't know where cases were coming from. As of today there are 23 confirmed cases.
Shawn was in Arizona for work and then he flew to Wisconsin. On 3/14 last year, Rick passed away, so Shawn was able to go spend time with his mom and sister on that day. But the week Shawn was gone in went from being o.k. to travel, to people shouldn't travel unless totally necessary. I hope and pray he didn't catch anything in the airports. Typically, people that are healthy shouldn't get too sick from this virus. High fever, cough, and respiratory problems. But, its people with a compromised immune system or older people that this hits really hard. If we can slow the spread by kinda staying home then the hospitals will not get as overrun. So, that is the goal.
Today is our first day of home school. I found a schedule on line and this is our journaling time. I probably didn't do this justice talking about the start of COVID 19 but it is my brief recap.
First morning of homeschool! Starting out with a walk with Olive!
