Shawn planned an awesome adventure day the day before Christmas Eve (December 23rd). He was able to take the day off of work so we packed the car up and took off. Actually, Shawn totally prepared and packed what we needed. I took of for an early morning grocery shop so we could have all the food and fixing we would want on Christmas Eve and Christmas. We drove 2 hours west almost to Wendover. Right before Wendover we cut North towards a mountain range. We drove on some pretty bumpy 2 track lanes to get to this area Shawn had discovered on the web. The plan was to hike to the peak but we got a later start than we had wanted so we had fun exploring the old mines that were along our route. There was no real path so when it started getting trickier hiking and we knew we were going to lose light, we decided to turn around. We came back to the truck and fixed some hamburgers on our little grill. It got VERY cold out and it made me realize how nice it is to have heat and somewhere to warm up. While fixing dinner, Shawn got out the guns and we all had fun shooting at targets. Our hands got kinda cold, so we didn't shoot too long. It was such a fun day! The 2 older kids (especially Cruz) started out the day very negative and NOT wanting to go, but we were able to get him and Alegra moving and they ended up having a good time. (I am putting this in here to remind myself, it wasn't always "roses" to do family activities, we get lots of pushback but I am always happy when we do it.)
