On Sunday October 13th we got up and took the metro to Arlington Cemetery. The Embassy Suites was right by a metro station, so that was good. We got free breakfast at all the hotels we stayed at which saved us time and money. We took the blue line to Arlington Cemetery. Arlington was amazing!
We saw John F Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy's burial site. The plantation house of Robert E. Lee. The tomb of the Unkown soldier and watched the changing of the guard on the hour and the changing of the new wreath ceremony. We had to hustle out of the cemetery and take the metro back to our hotel to check out at noon. We walked back to the metro with our bags this time and took the yellow line to L'Enfant Plaza were we stayed at the Hilton, closer to the mall area.
It was fun to figure out the metro system to get places.Walked a bit with our bags at the L'Enfant plaza but finally found our hotel. Dropped our bags and headed toward the mall area. We were starving and grabbed some hot dogs from a food truck. They were good!
Went into the Smithsonian Natural History Museum first. It was very crowded but we kinda just browsed.
Harry Winston Diamond
Next we walked through the Smithsonian Museum of American History
Got Ice Cream and took a break on our way to the Washington Monument. Watched an ice cream truck heist that was very entertaining.
Decided to rent scooters for an hour, our feet were getting kinda tired. Scootered from the Washington Monument to the WW II Monument.
Then we scootered over to the Vietnam War Memorial
Then to the Lincoln Memorial
It was getting kinda late and we were getting hungry and our scooter time was almost out, so we decided to scooter up to the foggy bottom area where George Washington University is (Rebecca went there for 2 years) and eat at a salad place in that area and turn our scooters in.
After dinner we took the metro (which was right there) back to our hotel for the night.
Lots of walking today but we saw some amazing things and I hope our kids and us will try to realize and understand the sacrifice that so many men and women have made for our country!
