DAY 3

We woke up at 8 a.m. ready see more of D.C.  We first walked to the Department of Engraving and Imprinting that was close to our hotel but unfortunately it was Monday October 14th - Columbus/Indigenous People day and the facility was closed.  We walked right next door to the Holocaust Museum. Initially we weren't going to go through this museum, and even though it was very sobering, I am so glad we did.  After the Holocaust Museum we walked around the Tidal Basin area and saw the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Franklin Delanore Roosevelt Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the War memorial, and then back to the WW II Memorial.

Thomas Jefferson
Cruz got a scooter whenever he could.  This isn't a great picture, but Shawn jumped on with him. It was so funny to see them riding it together.

Walking in the mall area
WW II again- with the awesome backdrop of the Washington Monument
Then we walked up to the White House. I had tried to get a tour when we booked the trip but they were already all taken.  So we just got to look at it from the outside, and you have to stay so far away.  It was a little underwhelming compared to all the other things we had seen in D.C.
Walked past this WW I Memorial that I had never seen before, it was really cool.
Then stopped for much needed rest and lunch at Corner Bakery.
After lunch we walked on the diagonal portion of Pennsylvania Avenue to the FBI building.  I had also tried to get a tour of this building with no luck.  So we got a picture outside of it.
Then we walked to the National Archives building.  We had to wait in a bit of a line but it was totally worth it.  We got to see the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution.  This was really amazing!

After the National Archives we walked over to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and culture.  This museum was really cool and we loved the architecture of it.  We were pretty tired at this point but I am so glad we walked through it.

This is the outside of the African American Smithsonian, pretty incredible.
Cruz got a scooter and let Lexi jump on with him. We went back to the Hilton by the Spy Museum at L'Enfant Plaza to rest for 30 minutes.
We then took an Uber to the Navy Yard area where Shawn stays when he comes to DC for work.  It's kinda a hip, trendy area.  This was one of my favorite nights.  We had yummy Mexican at Taco City.  Lexi was really into Mexican Cokes this trip, so she was really happy.

Then we walked a few blocks in that area to Shake Shack for a couple of milkshakes to split.
Lexi sent this to me and I thought it was something her phone produced but later found out she wrote it up in her notes.  We walked and walked this day!
We took an Uber from the Navy Yard area and got dropped off at the Lincoln Memorial. Everyone told us to see the monuments at night and I am so glad we hit a few of them. It was really a special evening. The kids were getting along so well and it was just a magical night!

Washington (from the Lincoln Monument)

Korean War (which we didn't see in the day) and was so crazy cool, especially at night. It made you feel like you were in the fields with them.

Cruz and Lexi scootering!

WW II again
Back to Washington and then we walked home. Cruz had paid $13 for an hour so he jumped on a scooter with Lexi to get home.
Alegra was a trooper and walked with us and then we found this bike near the end of our walk that we let her ride.  She is a little timid of electric scooters and bikes from her accident last summer.
