So Lexi and I did something totally crazy, but totally worth it this week. My brother Rich called my mom a couple weeks back to tell her about a big party his company ZEPR was having because they got 1 billion hits to their website a month. My mom was toying with the idea of going and I spoke up and said I would go with her. Lexi needed to come with because I am still nursing. Now, I am not one to leave my kids, I just don't like to, but I couldn't pass up on this opportunity. We found a flight that left at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Alegra went to our neighbors house and our same neighbor Misty picked up Cruz from the bus stop on Thursday. Shawn was able to come home from work at a decent time to pick them up from Misty's house. Cruz, Alegra, and Dad had a blast going out to dinner at our favorite, High Note, and going to the plumbing store to fix the kitchen faucet. Meanwhile, Grammy, Lexi, and I were on a flight to LA. We arrived in LA at 4:30 California time. Because it was high traffic time we jumped in a cab (rather than having someone come to get us). It took us about 45 minutes to get to Ryan and Naomi's house (they were expecting us). We got to see the girls for a bit (super short time). We quickly changed our clothes and got ready for the party. I fed Lexi (actually I fed her the food in the cab ride and then nursed her at their house. Their nanny was staying with the girls that night and she was happy to watch Lexi too. I basically put her to bed though before we left. We drove to the party with Ryan and Naomi. It was so cool. Rich's company has 2 big warehouses on Abbot-Kenney street, a very trendy area of Venice. They have over 130 employees now, super crazy!!! The theme of the party was like a 1920's/1930's circus theme. They had a boxing ring set up right when we walked in that had guys dressed as old-school boxers boxing. They had a flapper lady getting ready. They had another flapper lady eating fire, a guy on stilts, a sketch artist, a letter press station to send notecards, and an old time baseball game, which people could play in, going on. They also had shaving stations set up all over the place. Employees were all in a contest to grow beards until they reached one billion hits a month. Lots of guys looked pretty shaggy. I would say there was about 500-1000 people there. It was for employees, industry people, you tube people, and many more but I am not sure who :). Rich got Late Night alumni to play in one of the warehouse spaces. They played for about 30 minutes and then Ryan (aka DJ Kaskade) played for an hour. The girls in the crowd went wild when Ryan came on. He doesn't really play smaller parties anymore but because Rich is his brother he was happy to help him out. It was cute when they hugged on stage after Ryan's set. A funny story from the night, someone tweeted "I hear Kaskade somewhere in my neighborhood, I MUST find him!!" We stayed in the green room with Ryan and Naomi until some of the crowd cleared out and then they brought Ryan's car around back. Rich seemed REALLY happy with the party. He has been working so hard, really since he started the company, so I was glad he had a night to kind of celebrate their success to this point. We got home at about 11:00. Lexi was asleep in the pack in play int the guest room. She woke up when we got home so I nursed her and put her down. My alarm went off at 4:45 to get up. We had a car come and get us at 5:00a.m. We were on a flight at 7:00 a.m. and I was back in my house by 10:30 a.m., less than 24 hours later. Lexi was such a gem. She did have a total freak out for about 10 minutes on the flight out, but once I got her to sleep she snoozed the rest of the trip. On the way home the flight was not full at all so I had a seat for her, that was awesome!!! She got a little tired I put her in her car seat and she went right to sleep. Seriously, she couldn't have been better. She has since gotten a little cold, and it might be from the traveling, but she was such a good traveling buddy. This was her first plane flight!!!!
My mom and I went up to a loft area when Ryan was playing. We were both kind of overlooking the scene and I could see my mom get choked up. She said how much my dad would have loved to see this. I couldn't agree more. I do think though that he was probably checkin' in on the party. How I do wish he could have seen it in person though!
I am so proud of all of my brothers and the men they are. I was happy I was able to see 2 of them in action!
